Adair of Laurens County

Laurens County, SC
The ancient family of Adair began with Robert Adair, born ca 1360 in Kildonan meaning “Cill Donnain”, a village situated on the southern coast of the Isle of Arran in the Firth of Clyde.

While a young man, Robert went to Ireland and fought a dual with the “White Knight” in a village called Adair which was located on the Desmond Estate in Limerick County, Ireland. After slewing his opponent, he returned to Scotland. A descendant, John Adair (1756-1812) was buried in this cemetery. He served as a Private in the South Carolina Militia.

The genealogy of Adair by Jeannette Holland Austin traces the family histories of the ancient families to South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia and is available to members of Virginia Pioneers.net
