Whigs caused hardships in Edgefield County during Revolutionary War

During the Revolutionary War hardships were imposed in the Ninety-Six district by the British. A great deal of property was destroyed, houses burned, negroes stolen and carried away and nearly half the men had either been killed or died of disease while in camp in Edgefield. Soon after the Whig's got the upper hand in this section they arrested Rev. Mr. Norris of Cloud's Creek for preaching the doctrine of non-resistance and lodged him in jail at Ninety-Six.
